Mod Onboarding

Welcome! This checklist is for new team members.

Read first

Team map (quick)

  • Admin: final decisions, escalations, staffing.
  • Discord Moderator (text): general rule enforcement in text channels.
  • VC Moderator (voice): voice channels and VC events.
  • Helper: support channels (#help, #users-helping-users, #models).
  • Configurator: permissions, bots, automod, server config.

Access + setup

  • Confirm you have the correct team role(s).
  • Read through your team channel and the shared staff channel.
  • Talk to your Team Lead about expectations, coverage needs, and any questions you have.

First week checklist

  • Shadow a lead or senior mod for a few cases.
  • Handle at least one low-severity case with a lead available.
  • Review the Incident Playbook (self-promo, crypto, doxxing, VC incidents).
  • Practice /warn, /mute, /ban, and /caselist.
  • Ask your lead what coverage windows are most needed.

Guardrails

  • When in doubt, mute for 1 hour with the reason "pending moderation" and ask for help.
  • If you are unsure, ping online moderators in #vc-mods or #moderators.
  • If youre doing a voice moderation, use /report-vc whenever possible.
  • Do not use native Discord moderation tools.

Communication + activity

  • Stay reasonably active (chat presence, VC presence, support answers, mod discussions).
  • Post inactivity/LOA notices in your team channel and ping your lead.
  • LOA format:
    • Dates: 12th June 2024 - 1st July 2024
    • Reason: Optional (DM a lead/Admin if you prefer)
