Mod Onboarding
Welcome! This checklist is for new team members.
Read first
Team map (quick)
- Admin: final decisions, escalations, staffing.
- Discord Moderator (text): general rule enforcement in text channels.
- VC Moderator (voice): voice channels and VC events.
- Helper: support channels (#help, #users-helping-users, #models).
- Configurator: permissions, bots, automod, server config.
Access + setup
- Confirm you have the correct team role(s).
- Read through your team channel and the shared staff channel.
- Talk to your Team Lead about expectations, coverage needs, and any questions you have.
First week checklist
- Shadow a lead or senior mod for a few cases.
- Handle at least one low-severity case with a lead available.
- Review the Incident Playbook (self-promo, crypto, doxxing, VC incidents).
- Practice
/warn,/mute,/ban, and/caselist. - Ask your lead what coverage windows are most needed.
Guardrails
- When in doubt, mute for 1 hour with the reason "pending moderation" and ask for help.
- If you are unsure, ping online moderators in #vc-mods or #moderators.
- If you’re doing a voice moderation, use
/report-vcwhenever possible. - Do not use native Discord moderation tools.
Communication + activity
- Stay reasonably active (chat presence, VC presence, support answers, mod discussions).
- Post inactivity/LOA notices in your team channel and ping your lead.
- LOA format:
- Dates: 12th June 2024 - 1st July 2024
- Reason: Optional (DM a lead/Admin if you prefer)
